A Fundraiser for Gaby Kennedy
Gabriella Kennedy Fundraiser - Gabriella Kennedy is only four years old and a few weeks before her fourth birthday she was diagnosed with Neuroblastoma. Neuroblastoma is a common form of childhood cancer which starts in the abdomen or brain, in Gaby's case it began in her abdomen and after numerous tests it was discovered that it had spread to the lymph glands in her groin and there is also a spot on her cranium.
Gaby is undergoing very aggressive chemotherapy at Charlotte Maxeke hospital because due to difficult financial circumstances the family could not afford medical aid. She is coping well with her treatment because she is a strong and brave little girl, but the chances of this cancer re-occurring are very high.
To make an already heartbreaking situation worse, Gaby's dad passed away very suddenly on the 15th November due to an epileptic fit. Nadine, Gaby's mom is trying extremely hard to cope with saving her little girl and now the loss of Gaby's dad while trying to hold down her part time job and pay all the family's bills very much on her own. In the last three years Nadine has lost her own mother, her mother-in-law and now the father of her child, so of course she feels alone and desperate!
Gaby has recently undergone intense induction chemo that was followed by surgery and is currently undergoing myleoblative chemotherapy which destroys all her bone marrow leaving her immune system compromised. It is necessary to be in isolation for this stage of her treatment. This will be followed by radiation. Gaby is a strong little girl, who through all of this she is still in good spirits and fights like a tiger!!
