Namirembe Riding School
We have been established at Namirembe for 18 years.
I am a qualified SANEF Prelim Instructor. At present we have 30 horses and ponies, some of them young horses as I also have a small stud. Right now we have two foals and one due any day.
I specialise in teaching children and beginners to ride. I try to give them a broad basic education in Horsemanship, from learning to care for their pony, to respect and love these amazing animals, to riding . We teach basic dressage, jumping and equitation and when the rider is ready they can advance to which ever discipline the want to pursue.
We have lessons every afternoon, three lessons on Saturday and special lessons at any time requested. Unless specially requested the lessons are group lessons, usually less than six riders at a time. A lot of Moms ride with their children but i also teach some Moms in the mornings. Most of my pupils ride on my horses and ponies, but some lucky children have their own ponies stabled with me. I try to make riding a fun activity and the lessons are adjusted to each individuals abilities.
Young children need to learn at their own pace in order to gain their confidence and to build their physical ability, so I push when the child is able to go forward, but let them take their time when they need to work through the next step in their learning process. My horses and ponies are carefully chosen for the level of riding needed and all are good natured and are wonderful at helping to teach their riders.
During the school holidays, children come for the whole day, usually every Tuesday and Wednesday. They ride in the morning, then clean tack or stables or paint poles or what ever is happening in the stable yard. Then they swim or watch a video depending on the time of year. After lunch they brush their horses and ride again in the afternoon.
